A STROLL around Rutland Water helped raise thousands to be used to support wounded servicemen and help young cancer sufferers.
The Rutland Water Walk organised by RAF Cottesmore took place on Sunday and saw about 250 people show up to take part in a variety of routes, which includes 10-mile, 17-mile and 23-mile challenges, as well as a 3.5-mile excursion.
The event, sponsored by BAE Systems, featured stalls and a raffle, followed by a disco at Normanton Park Hotel to round off the day. Servicemen, walkers in fancy dress and dogs all helped make the day a success.
Help for Heroes, a national group to support injured soldiers and Anna's Hope, which is raising money to help children with brain tumours, benefited from the funds raised.
Flt Lt Lisa Ferris, of RAF Cottesmore, said: "Everyone had a really good day and the after-party went well.
"We'd like to thank every-body who supported the day."
Anna's Hope chairman Rob Hughes said: "We're very pleased that we were supported by our friends at the RAF and friends in the area."
