A RUGBY club is looking forward to a brighter future after funding was secured to buy land for a new clubhouse.
Deepings Rugby Club's future has been hanging in the balance since it found out it was unable to extend the lease on its Linchfield Road ground beyond 2015 due to possible extension plans for The Deepings School.
In September South Kesteven District
Council approved outline planning permission for a new home for the club, as well as 32 affordable homes, a nursing home, day centre and an art and cultural centre for The Orchard in Spalding Road, Deeping St James.
Developer Larkfleet Homes submitted the plans and now the club has secured the necessary funds to purchase its piece of land. Chairman Gary Hainsworth would
not reveal the amount of money
or the investor, but said it was the first step towards a positive future.
He said: "We have a significant amount of money for the land and we are very pleased because it shows some confidence in the future of the club.
"There is a party that is happy to donate some money for the cause."
Mr Hainsworth is encouraging members to have a positive outlook on the future because the club now needs to find the funds to build the new clubhouse.
He has circulated an internal letter to members to "rally the troops".
Mr Hainsworth said: "We are at the very promising early stages which will move the rugby club from a period of uncertainty into the future.
"We are very hopeful we can raise the additional money to build the clubhouse."
He said the club will be launching an appeal next year asking for sponsorship and donations to help with funds.
