This is a copy of a letter we have sent to South Kesteven District Council, to voice our concerns on the proposed developments at The Lady Anne's Hotel.
"Having recently seen the proposed plans for development our feelings are even stronger than they previously were.
The plans resemble the flat roofed motels you come across on most motorways and it would be a crime to erect this monstrosity on the
beautiful established gardens of the Lady Anne's Hotel.
We believe English Heritage has already opposed the application and has voiced its concerns.
We were born and raised in Stamford and have always been proud and lucky to be a part of the community surrounded by such beautiful buildings and the history that goes with them.
To develop on the gardens of Lady Anne's would be detrimental to the beautiful hotel that it is and the area surrounding it.
Take any entrance into Stamford and you are met with housing estates, retail parks and the like, except St Martin's. Turn into St Martin's and you see the Lady Anne's, the wonderful buildings on either side of the road down to the George Hotel and our wonderful town bridge.
At the moment Lady Anne's supplies 77 parking spaces for Stamford High School staff and can take 115 cars at one time. Lose this facility, where do they go?
Extra noise, traffic etc will all be added to the vicinity.
Residents in the area already have a battle to park near their own homes in the narrow streets in the surrounding area. There is only one pedestrian crossing in St Martin's – there to help schoolchildren cross safely. The next one is in St Mary's Street.
We would suggest a full week's census be done when the school is in full swing, not when it is closed and for one day. The increase in traffic and people trying to park without the facility of Lady Anne's car park needs to be taken into account.
The excellent service and facilities provided by management and staff of Lady Anne's Hotel is to be commended. More than 50 charities and local groups use the facilities of which all are made welcome and supported. If this is taken away, where will they go?
In a nutshell – we strongly oppose the application by Burghley Estates. It would be detrimental to the town, the gardens and the history of this wonderful 18th century building.
We therefore sincerely hope it will be refused.
We would urge anyone who cares about this issue to voice their concerns to the planning office at the district council.
