Stamford: Without doubt one of the finest medieval towns in the British Isles, if not in Europe, recorded in the Domesday Book as a market town.
There is evidence that Ancient Britons dwelt here, in the days before the Romans built their road through the town.
History records many facts about this beautiful town of Stamford, one might ask what will future historians record? As elected town
councillors we wonder!
The town has survived as a market town for centuries; many will remember Stamford as it was, many changes have taken place, some good, some bad.
We do hope those that have decided to move to this beautiful town in the last decade remember thousands have lived and worked in this town all their lives.
Changes take place, but one must always remember change for change sake is not required, change for improvement can always be justified, and any changes need careful consideration, and should involve the whole populous of the town.
Stamford today has an excellent democratically elected town council, committed to working for the total populous of the Stamford; regardless of each individual's political stand- point.
Yet we still find minority groups trying to inflict on the majority changes that are not in the best interest of Stamford town as a whole.
Of course minority groups must have a voice, all would agree, but minority groups should remember that the elected town council speaks for the majority, therefore it should be consulted on all issues regarding change or improvements to this town.
We all have a role to play; however when playing the game, all should remember that the starting point should be Stamford Town Council, which is the democratically elected body of this town.
