BNP not wanted here

IT was disappointing to see you greet the news of the Bourne Abbey by-election by commenting exclusively upon the BNP candidate.

Barmy of Boston is an irrelevance not welcome here. I have personal experience of the way BNP supporters dealt with the Portuguese community in Boston, and we do not want their kind in Bourne.

Nor do we need UKIP here either.

The good
news is that seven people have each taken the trouble to collect the 10 signatures necessary to stand. Candidates in local council elections are usually thin on the ground.

The better news is that the electors in Abbey do not need to hand the seat over to any out-of-town carpetbagger.

There is an eminently suitable Bourne candidate, who has done good work for the town and will not become one of the faceless party political puddings who have dragged Lincolnshire down into the mire over the past few years.

We should be thankful that the electoral system does not force a BNP councillor upon us as happened in the recent Greater London Assembly election, or a UKIP charlatan, as happened at the last European election.

Let us hope the person elected will not vote for another massive increase in council tax simply to preen the vanity of the Chief Constable.

Guy Cudmore
Meadowgate,
Bourne
